The Biointernet Mask History
Depending on the application, there are a number of mask types available including disposable ear loop masks, molded, or the more advanced particulate filter mask.
Each variety is suited to a particular set of uses such as general isolation, fluid resistance, and airborne pathogen control.
Medical Masks protecting healthy individuals from cross contamination is essential for reducing transmission of potentially life threatening conditions.
Some masks are used for medical purposes:
Medical Oxygen mask, a piece of medical equipment that assists breathing
Anesthetic mask
Medical Burn mask, a piece of medical equipment that protects the burn tissue from contact with other surfaces, and minimises the risk of infection
Medical Surgical mask, a piece of medical equipment that helps to protect both the surgeon and patient from acquiring infection from each other
Medical Face shield, to protect a medical professional from bodily fluids
Medical Pocket mask or CPR mask, used to safely deliver rescue breaths during a cardiac arrest or respiratory arrest
Medical Facemask respirators are examples of personal protective equipment that are used to protect the wearer from liquid and airborne particles contaminating the face. They are one part of an infection-control strategy.
A facemask is a loose-fitting, disposable device that creates a physical barrier between the mouth and nose of the wearer and potential contaminants in the immediate environment. Facemasks are not to be shared and may be labeled as surgical, isolation, dental or medical procedure masks. They may come with or without a face shield.
Facemasks are made in different thicknesses and with different ability to protect you from contact with liquids. These properties may also affect how easily you can breathe through the facemask and how well the facemask protects you.
More advanced surgical mask types include the molded face mask. These medical-grade masks are selected when a better fitted shape and fluid resistance is necessary like in the case of surgical procedures.
The preformed shape helps to provide a better seal preventing the transmission of pathogens. Like ear loop masks, these provide an economical solution, but provide an extra level of protection.
